Nah, Zack Snyder does pointless slow motion.  The slow motion in Dredd was at least integrated into the story, and I thought quite beautiful in 3D.

I haven't seen it in ten years, but I remember being more impressed by it than any other slasher film I'd ever seen.  Seeing it after the 2003 remake probably helped too.

To me when I think of Prometheus the best movie comparison I can think of isn't Alien but something like Forbidden Planet.  It was ambitious and silly and pretty with ungainly Big Ideas and lots of science fiction b-movie ridiculousness.  I was hugely entertained.

A negative Dana Stevens review is perhaps the strongest indication that I will enjoy that film.  When it comes to film preferences she is basically Bizarro Me.
