Halfway through Crystal Skull my (drunk) friend, angry at the movie's general awfulness, made a noisy exit to smoke a cigarette.

I've been waiting for this one. Plus, her website says there will be a tour of the West coast so, yay!

I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now, what I'm with isn't it, and what's "it" seems weird and scary to me.

"That's how I learned about the Rapture. It's where my character went."

Agreed mbs. Plus, it took guts to stick around after that whole avatar theft/distortion business.

Also, it was an 'Elseworlds' so I think you can rest easy about the Superman canon.

I see what you're saying Doc, but I liked the end because it summed up the degree to which Superman/Lex Luthor relied on one another. Despite all their fighting they were locked in a co-dependent relationship.

In middle school we used to read/trade Spawn and X-Men pretty regularly. I was late to the party with graphic novels though. I think I was halfway through college before I picked up my first one.

Of all the appearances Black Bolt has made, this one makes the most sense.

well yeah, but if you're looking to start somewhere…c'mon, it's Superman!

Superman: Red Son
After reading All-Star Superman, I'd recommend Red Son, Mark Millar's alternate-universe tale of Superman landing in the USSR instead of the US.

Well, I don't know that I'd start with 'Watchmen'…but you're right bk, most of have at least a passable familiarity with comic book conventions.

Game OVER man!

Also, I think Wikipedia might say it too.

George *was* Jewish. You can be both Jewish and Italian.

I loved this write-up too. Nicely done Scott. It's been ages since I've seen this (as a horror fan I am guilty of overlooking it in favor of the splatstick stuff), but it's clearly due for a re-watch soon.

Also I highly recommend the commentary on Bad Taste. Loads of good stories about shooting on zero budget.

More love for Bad Taste and Dead Alive.

mbs, we're sorta in the same boat.

I think Bullettoof has it just right. I first listened to the Greatful Dead in high school during my classic rock years. I had an ear for americana (Dylan, The Band, that sort of thing) so I quickly took to their sound. But I don't find them in heavy rotation today.
