Of course, apparently their estate is doing swimmingly compared to a lot of other estates that did not reform their operations. That would make her pretty marriageable for a lot of the aristocracy, I'd think.

They did a lot of backpedalling on his character this season, which I hated to see after the significant development he had during Season 3.
Unless he's actually a serial killer and that ticket stub is his trophy. Maybe he really did kill his wife and there is something of hers lying around too…..
My biggest issue with his character is that we've just gotten a series of "lower class female making him feel bad about his new position in life" plots, which get repetitious and really, really frustrating. No new ground has been covered for his character; instead, all we get is maybe (if we're lucky) an episode of…
Count me in the Gillingham camp too, although I get the feeling from every plotline involving Blake that we're probably supposed to be backing him instead.
If "The Empty Hearse" has taught me anything, it's that the show creators don't actually know if Moriarty's back or how, and they just wanted a shocking ending to the season and won't bother explaining when the show returns.
If they are going to bother having more than one character in a show, it is usually nice if those other characters have some development beyond "reactionary backup to the main character."
Maybe I wasn't paying as close attention as I should have been, but the entire episode did feel more like a collection of scenes than an actual storyline.
This gutted me, when Mary said to John ‘You don’t even know my name’, and he replied ‘Is Mary Watson good enough for you?’
I wish they would stop using that line "I'm a high functioning sociopath" so often. It was punchier when they only used it once a season, instead of once an episode.
I agree about Janine. Just from the brief scenes we see with her, I find myself wishing she was actually The Woman instead of Irene. She seemed fully capable of handling Sherlock, and more importantly, thinking independently while still being in love with him.
Too bad that in the process we got saddled with a reviewer bitter that every episode of Sherlock, a series about Sherlock Holmes, heavily focuses on Sherlock.
Only one comment: in the original canon Sherlock was considered to be a superb fighter as far as I can recall, so it isn't much of a stretch for Elementary's Sherlock to be skilled in self-defense.
Oh my god, you're right. With all of that and Lucy Liu's practical immortality, there really wouldn't be much of a point to even having Sherlock around in the first place!
Glad to know that I wasn't the only one missing those moments. I don't want him to be the invincible superhuman of Sherlock by any means, but he is a genius and an extraordinary detective, and lately there has been less "extra" in the equation…
I think the article criticizes Sherlock more for being worse at developing its characters than Elementary, and I agree. Sure, Sherlock has much less time to do the same developing as Elementary does, but I feel like it squanders the time it does have on flash and style instead of using it to build substance.
You do have a good point. I admit that I'd like to see Watson stumble a bit more in investigations, not from any desire to see her fail so Sherlock can swoop in and save the day, but because it would be more realistic to see her not always grasping what Sherlock does. He has been doing it for so many more years than…
Good point, but you can't make any kind of meaningful discussion out of a comment like kernel32's. Sure, downvoting someone just for having a different opinion is bad, but IMO there are times when a downvote is appropriate.
Random thoughts:
I wonder if providing due diligence in this way stifles involvement from people that would otherwise be very vocal about the series, though. In other words, do you think reviewing a full season (because it is basically a full season, even without the Christmas episode) in one block before the season even airs limits…
