Maybe I was interpreting it all too naively, but I took the entire exchange at face value: Sherlock mocks her for her lack of fighting ability (and her plethora of snazzy black belts) while she sends him annoyed look for the teasing.
Those heels must have made it easier for her to walk in the snow. You know, what with raising her up over the snow drifts… or something.
Wait, you're making the qualification that if it hadn't her imprimatur? Isn't straight fetish porn pretty much her area of expertise?
So what's the current exchange rate between real money and movie theater money, and would you pay Monopoly money to see it?
Awww. Sure, it isn't the best Disney movie ever made, but I watched it a lot when I was a kid, so nostalgia rescues it from "suckage" for me. Then again, when I was a kid, I wanted the dragon and kid to win, but when I saw it again a few years ago as a cynical, jaded adult, I end up cheering for Dr. Terminus, so…
Perhaps it's just because that's how I want to interpret it, then. I will admit I feel a bit disappointed when they don't make it clear through the dialogue, particularly in those instances you mentioned. And while I don't want Watson to be a dunce at solving crimes, it would be nice if her progress was a little… slo…
I don't think the Holmes of the Canon is gone. "[He] could talk exceedingly well when he chose" applies just as well to this Holmes as canon Holmes. He has shown tact in many episodes.
I really enjoyed this episode overall too. It was nice to see Joan having some pretty reasonable doubts about her abilities, and I loved Sherlock's expression of disappointment when she gives in and apologizes to that guy rather than trust her own instincts. I wanted to punch her friends, even though in an objective…
Yeah, it does make more sense when you put it like that.
I think you're confusing me with the OP. I've never said I have a "deep love" for Miyazaki, or that Miyazaki is a god who is above fault and above criticism. I recognize that his movies can have flaws, but I would still say they are executed well, better than the vast majority of "kid" movies.
Sooo…. you did not like Spirited Away's animation style, and that's what led you to suddenly denigrate all of Studio Ghibli's works?
@avclub-29501df08e5d9ae59e432e4f188d3735:disqus : Yes, that really is the perfect way to describe it. Despite all the hype and love from critics, Lost in Translation felt absolutely empty to me. Neither character was interesting and there was no real emotional connection between them that could salvage anything. In…
Ooo, classical!
Seconded on Millennium Actress, Okami and Ico. I'd also add the recent PS3 release Journey. Beautiful visuals, elegant control system, great music and a deeply moving story, with or without the co-op… That game tops my list of perfect games.
This plan also has the side benefit of plausible deniability. "What? I wasn't there. I'm not in any of the videos, am I?"
I like the "real women" challenge. In fact, I think they should do more of them, not because I find it inherently fair, but because I find it ridiculous that people who supposedly design clothes for the human body end up panicking so much at the thought of designing something for a "real" person's dimensions. "Oh my…
Neverending Exorcism?
Your point is valid and I agree with your last statement, so on a completely unrelated note:
@jamesoleary:disqus Thanks for the correction, and it is not cheating to use all the tools at your disposal. I just never thought the Russian word for police could be so similar to the word in Spanish and Italian, considering how truly different those languages are.
