I don't know that I'd want it for my funeral, but if I knew I was going to die tomorrow and only had one night to go out and do everything I wanted to do in my life, I'd definitely play "Lifetime Piling Up" the entire time.

"Radio Song" is what it is, and I've never been wild about "Belong," but other than that OOT is just fine by me. I think part of the critical revisionism toward that album is that in retrospect it just feels like a dry run for Automatic - superficially similar (lots of organs and acoustic guitars) but with nowhere…
Losing your virginity, or doing so while listening to the Eagles?
Yes, what's with Woody Allen always casting beautiful women as the romantic leads in his movies? Next time, he should cast one of Hollywood's many frumpy, unattractive A-list actresses.
He's done that at every show for years. What I don't get is why other people (i.e. non-fans) find this remarkable. At this point, I don't think Morrissey really has "casual fans" anymore; everyone coming to the shows should know exactly what to expect, and the vast majority I'd assume would totally support it (like…
With any luck, it'll be drawn by Chris (Simpsons artist).
The AV Club commenters' review, "Lovitz Enjoyed By ALL," speaks for itself.
Yes. It'd be one of those repeating GIFs.
Now I'm picturing Billy Corgan, in this exact pose making this exact face, cuddling two Sphinx cats, both of which have his face and are making that same facial expression.
I bet we could entice them to make a new LP by offering them free pickled eggs.
Radio announcers > TV sportscasters, pretty much always. The only sports team I follow religiously is IU basketball, and Don Fischer makes listening to the games almost preferable to watching them (it sucks you can't just watch the games on mute with the radio on anymore, due to digital cable feed).
I'm not going to do the typical bagging-on-Coldplay thing (I don't love them, but I don't hate them either), but Jesus CHRIST that new song is terrible. Ripping off Lorde's "Team" is not a good look for guys pushing 40.
It's weird, some of the vitriol I'm seeing towards Unplugged/acoustic music in general in these comments, like that it's "tame" and whatnot. Not that everything has to be acoustic or that acoustic music is inherently "better," but I can't fathom dismissing music out of hand just because it's "mellow." I did that too,…
Tears in Heaven could've been redeemed if only Clapton had ended it with a heartfelt dedication to Willips Brighton's son.
Yes, stand-ups are vastly superior. They also cost thousands of dollars and are hella inconvenient. Obviously anyone doing Unplugged can afford it and has roadies, but for a guy like me, stand-ups are a romantic but highly impractical notion.
I'd have to imagine by now Lorne has a hand-picked successor (obvious choice that gets bandied about is Tina Fey but it's not guaranteed that she'd want it). Unlike the 1980 debacle, that should enable him to leave the show on his own terms. I get that he created the show and it strongly reflects his sensibilities,…
I think one of SNL's biggest problems, which people don't talk about that much, is the same problem as the rest of late-night TV, which is the move away from interesting guests/hosts in favor of insipid celebrities who are only there to push movies. People talk about it all the time when talking about late night talk…
I saw this this other day and for some reason found it amazingly hilarious. There's something inherently funny to me about the total lack of subtlety in klaxon/foghorn type sounds, and that, coupled with the utter delight of the bystanders, makes this comedy gold.
This is a job for the Harlem Globetrotters.
Haven't read this review yet, but I just want to take a minute to say that based on letter grades at least, Erik is underrating the fuck out of Season 3. I've always personally preferred it to Season 2, but even if that's just my personal preference, there's no denying S3 is still golden age Office. I'm troubled by…
