I just saw her in November and she did both of those songs, which surprised the hell out of me. I was really surprised in general at how much her set drew from I'm With Stupid, but I certainly wasn't complaining.

I saw SP in '08 (Chamberlain was still with them at this time) and they devoted pretty much the entire set to deep cuts, which alienated most of the crowd but was an utter delight for me. They did "Transformer," for chrissakes.

If you can believe it, I once saw "Creep" performed at a high school talent show. It was pretty surprising, since absolutely no high school bands have ever covered it, ever.

I saw him in '09 and was stunned when he did "The Partisan." It's not that it's such a deep cut or anything, it just never occurred to me that he'd play it. Either way, it was awesome.

When I saw Devo a couple years ago they did "Smart Patrol/Mr. DNA," which probably wasn't actually very unexpected, but which immediately made that go from "just another Devo song" to "my favorite Devo song" instantly. They absolutely ripped shit up on that song. I hope I have half their energy when I'm 60.

Since P&R is known for doing its Indiana homework, I am going to choose to believe that video store was based on Bloomington's now-defunct Cinemat, right down to the Cinema Paradiso posters.

You say that jokingly, but Morrissey would at least keep things interesting by making awesomely terrible puns out of the names of everyone there. Seriously, dude is the best bad pun-slinger this side of Mad Magazine.

Jakes traumatic memories deserve their own quote thread alone. Like his reminiscence about the school play. "I felt so…naked!"

Before reading this it never once occurred to me that anyone could not love Jake Morgendorffer. Seriously one of the funniest TV characters of all time in my opinion. Daria's parents perfectly embodied the midlife crisis Boomer archetype, and Jake's seething resentment was absolutely never not funny.

"Dam, Dam, DAM!"

See, I was picturing it being like some outdoor festival sponsored by Jiffy Lube, which left me wondering a) why would Jiffy Lube sponsor a music festival, and b) how the hell would Depeche Mode wind up on the bill?

I know venues and arenas are commonly named after corporate sponsors nowadays, but seriously: what the fuck is "Jiffy Lube Live"?

You should definitely check out Reckoning if you wanna hear Stipe's vocals in top form (his voice was distinctly deeper back then, and there's just this great unpolished quality to his voice, and it never sounds drawn out like "Everybody Hurts.") Check out "Camera" or "Time After Time" to hear what I mean.

Jann Wenner? Hyperbolic about a Boomer-era rock star? Never.

What I wonder here is, how much do we just project our own favorite artists onto our conception of a great singer? When I think of all the vocalists whose styles I like, I find myself listing a lot of people who wouldn't be on anyone's lists, but that are the singers of some of my favorite bands. For instance, I

Yeah, I was gonna say the same thing. I know Murray is weirdly skeptical of Frank Ocean and has talked multiple times that he's "not a great singer," etc, but I think his vocals are extraordinary. He has enough of the standard R&B stylings to be considered classically "good," but there's nothing mechanical or American

Holy. Shit. I have NEVER seen a show go THAT scorched-earth for a finale. Definitely got a little verklempt there at the end hearing "Jon" flat-out say where the show could've gone from there. Season 3 was shaky at first (hard not to be, coming off the utter perfection of season 2, which I think holds up against any

I think you're thinking of the Nightman.

It's a subtle distinction, but it's an important one. Either way, he realized that regardless of intention, he'd made a statement that came off as wildly

At least he could still drink water, otherwise he'd be thirsty and miserable.
