I first discovered Brand on his BBC Radio 2 programme. I liked him on it so much that I forgave all the preening and douche-baggery that came afterwards. Brand seems to be able to combine jaw-dropping crude humour with genuine insight and intellect in a way not often encountered (hence, perhaps, the allusion to Hicks).

I was surprised that Maron did not talk about the great national debacle we had here in the UK when Brand was fired/forced to resign from his show due to making sexy prank calls about a stripper to the elderly actor who played Manuel on Fawlty Towers. This really happened.
