It's a kind of even split for me honestly. The people who use it as a "flag" the way you say are my favorite kinds of people — even if I don't agree with them, they're often informed and know what they're talking about, and (and this isn't always a given), have actually consumed the piece of media in question that

Ooooh man, I figured Walton Goggins and Danny McBride woulda been a great choice for the "Best Duos" section for "Vice Principals."

That's very true, and activism does have to begin somewhere — so if this is some people's introduction to this very real issue, then I guess it's done some good. There's just still the dissonance for me of the outrage being directed at creators/projects that used the platforms they were given (aided immeasurably by

I'm similarly confused about the response here, but mostly because Zootopia and Moana (and to a lesser extent Kubo) were praised for dealing with issues of race, and engaging with cultures outside of what's normally seen in big studio productions. And though I really, really, really did not enjoy it, many seem to like

It's because no women or POCs directed/co-directed any of the major Oscar contenders in the feature animation category this year. Of the major US releases, only Kung-Fu Panda 3 had a female co-director — it's not a Hollywood Reporter issue, nor is it the fault of the subjects, really. It's the fault of the industry

They only highlight feature-length animation, because their roundtables are made in anticipation of awards season. Though I'll agree with you, I'd take the collected SU episodes released this year over any of the movies featured here.

Yeah, but like, if the press didn't report this shit, y'all would have less ammunition/evidence to show just how stupid and unfit for the office Trump is. I mean, yer average American isn't gonna know Rick Perry and won't realize how dumb his appointment is — but I guarantee you more people will look at something like

I feel like everyone's forgetting and/or underrating just how goddamn good Skeleton Tree is. Somehow seems to mostly have passed under the radar (wasn't even reviewed here, I don't think).

I've got the same review for Skeleton Tree, another album that didn't get covered here.

It was very good, and Big Eyes was no slouch either. Sweeney Todd also came out this decade, so there's at least three gooduns in the span of the last 10 years. Erratic is more like it.

Fair enough, I was just throwing out I guess. As I said, I thought I read it somewhere, and I wasn't about to look up and watch the video because reading the comments in plain ol' black and white text already made me viscerally sick enough. Couldn't imagine stomaching watching someone say that shit with the smugness

Throwing out a guess here, but maybe there wasn't a reliable English translation of the interview prior to now? From what I read the comments were made in Italian to an Italian outlet covering a foreign event.

Seems like you weren't really watching Speed Racer then, because that's also part of the message/point of that movie too. Not that I'd have it any other way, mind.

"Last time I checked…"

What a fantastically obscure reference.

Yeah, me too. Plus, as someone I know pointed out, he found out about the attack on his wife while at a show, on the stage. Don't wanna armchair diagnose PTSD, but I can't help but think that being on that very distinctive stage night in and night out would bring him back to particularly good memories.

I mean, he's talked fairly openly in his music (including on Pablo) about struggles with mental illness and depression, and even about the manic episodes that happen when he doesn't take his meds. Not too much of a stretch for me to believe that he's in a very public "down" period in that struggle.

As I've said elsewhere, for me, what's the huge indication that there's been a big snap was the Jay Z/Beyonce comments, where he seemed to spin a tale of them conspiring against him, and flat out said he thought Jay had secret assassins that would come for his head. Trump got the headlines (because *obviously*); but

Just reminded me that Trump gets called out by name for being a shithead on that very album!

Maybe the guy should start making documentaries? He could be a Spurlock-type, where his lack of visual panache as a filmmaker wouldn't necessarily be as obvious as it is in fiction work. Plus, as a narrator he could use a his storytelling gifts well, and also hold engaging conversations with interview subjects.
