Did I really just watch Paul McCartney singing along with the crowd going 'na na na na, hey Jude' at the women's team pursuit medal ceremony? Did I? Is the Olympics being as excellently weird as I would want it to be?

And then their entirely incoherent post-race interview followed up with 'we're going to be on a stamp tomorrow!' Awww.

I'm a Brit, though never a Londoner, and the two events are thoroughly linked in my mind because I was on a caravan holiday and hadn't heard the news about the Olympics until I went into a shop the next day. Fireflies seem like a reasonably simple class of ship - it's small, it's old, and it basically runs itself (which is the main reason Mal and Kaylee like it so much). I see Kaylee not as a 'genius' as such but simply as someone who picks up machinery quickly - and working in a repair shop is exactly the way you get…

I've never thought to wonder before whether Inara dressed as courtesanly as she could partly to gauge the reactions of potential ship captains. It's exactly the sort of thing she'd do, it would make a lot of sense, and we almost never see her wear anything along those lines again - she is always alluring in a purely…
