Surely before Serenity the episode, as there's no mention of River having been recaptured and re-freed before the film - Mal even comments on some length of time that she's been on his ship which would pretty much tie in with the whole length of time Firefly took place over (plus a bit). It doesn't quite tie in with

He has to only just get beaten by Valjean in a fight, and be able to walk into places like the Thenardiers' den with impunity. Not sure I can quite see NPH pulling that off, but maybe. Possibly for the stage show where it matters a bit less…

I'm not sure you can be any worse prepared than Victorian Britain. You'll be fine. :)

God I love that clip so much. NPH is completely the wrong build for Javert but has all the intensity and menace you could desire…

I love the book. I really hope that the visual style of this does credit to the atmosphere of the book - it should have more ability to do so than the stage musical, and I'm just hoping they don't screw it up. (Particularly the galleys and the sewers.)

Hah! Um, okay, this is going to be complicated to explain since I'm not entirely sure what I meant myself. I guess I was not thinking of Oswald Mosley (I try not to, and I particularly try to forget Max Mosley's existence these days). But I think what I meant was that notion of a between-wars Britain where we had

Apparently the musical did pretty badly in France because the book is a holy grail to them. So maybe all the French actors refused to sully their country with it.

In contrast to those above, I found the directing of The King's Speech actually made me believe in the reality of 1930s England. (Normally I believe those decades were made up for stories about how we used to be better.) That bodes well for Les Mis, which will fail fast if it feels fake. (Wow, alliteration.)

Just make sure to get a catchy prisoner number that you can sing about later.
