I said this on the first page but I discovered Red Dwarf via Saturday night PBS. It was when I was 13 or 14 so in like 2001 or so. I used to watch Fawlty Towers that way, too, which I haven't seen in years but loved.

Eh, I feel like people who study the Holocaust loathe Life is Beautiful about as much as Schindler's List - it is equally "manipulative" ( although like @avclub-9e8e2377c9e35a0a0c86b84da11a2c1d:disqus was kind of getting at, I don't think this is intrinsically a problem for movies, books, etc.).

I agree, I really dislike Schindler's List. It's hacky and maudlin and its worst flaw is being fucking boring and overlong. You could chop off the entire first half of the movie and it would be an improvement. I would much prefer to see a whole movie about Amon Goeth (in fact, I would really like to see that movie).…
