Because it's big enough to use as a coffee table? I did that with Vincent Bugliosi's book on the JFK assassination. I didn't get very far into it though.

One of my favorite books of this year was "Between Shades of Gray" by Ruta Sepetys which is technically a YA novel so doesn't appear in lists. It's about Lithuanians deported to work camps in Siberia, so basically to the other side of the world, in the 1940's during the Soviet occupation of the Baltic states. It's a

We usually go to a New Year's party held by the family of one of my best friends from high school and when we were younger a tradition was for the kids to watch Wayne's World in the basement every year during the party. An excellent tradition.

I wish they'd change it so it gave a timestamp instead of "Three years ago." If you're reading an old thread you have no clue when someone posted whatever and it's very annoying.

I didn't discover this group this year but this is my favorite new-to-me song of the year. "Oh That I Had" from Ruby Frost and Mt. Eden. http://www.youtube.com/watc… It came out at the end of last year. I cannot stop listening to it.

I love Tori Amos. I mostly listen to hip hop these days but I usually keep some Tori on my iPod too. She's pretty great. I have seen her in concert, she is a great performer. I don't have any of the albums she's made in like the last ten years though, I guess I'm saving them for the future.

I totally agree. One thing I like is that it's so hard to tell what time of year it is (it's winter, but there are no other context clues  besides the Charlie Brown Christmas music). So I always think of it as early December.

No mention of The Apartment?

The much-discussed Drive soundtrack has that going on too but it only has like four non-score songs. Yeah, The Royal Tenenbaums soundtrack is really a masterpiece. It all fits together perfectly - it creates its own version of the New York sound in the same way that the film creates its own version of New York the

I think it's a pretty name. I also like that it's named after the Mexican state because I feel like a lot of people don't realize Mexico has a lot of states - I had had no idea there was one called Quintana Roo before I read The Year of Magical Thinking.

Christmas in Hollis is so great. And the Charlie Brown Christmas soundtrack is my favorite ever. I play it all the time. I love it in the Royal Tenenbaums soundtrack! Also, I have the Verve Christmas Remixed that my boyfriend gave me for Christmas last year - I'm a fan of the Verve remixes in general and that one is

The only one of these I've seen is Your Highness which I agree, is terrible. I had wanted to see Dirty Girl and still might. I also have a really vague interest in New Year's Eve because sometimes it's fun to see a bunch of wildly disparate actors in the same screen just for weirdness' sake.

Hope you enjoyed it. I saw it the most recently of all of these movies so I feel like I may be rating it too highly. Like did I really "enjoy" it more than Win Win or Super 8? The acting is so good though and it's also really visually beautiful and subtle. The only two of my list I have definite "places" for are the

I saw the Tony Jaa movies (and Ip Man movies!) for the first time this year and really loved them so thanks for the other recs. Tony Jaa is really incredible. I wish he would blow up here, I think he deserves international fame as a martial arts star.

My list:

Yeah it's at least as good as the Drive soundtrack. One of my favorite movie soundtracks ever. The final song "The Ends" is incredible.

I agree. I also really like that it presented a totally plausible (for an alien attack movie), self-contained "world" for the movie and didn't violate its norms or anything. It's not overrated! And the soundtrack is amazing.

Attack the Block is my favorite movie I saw all year. I haven't seen all of the films in the article but I've seen a decent chunk of them.

I'm looking forward to it for the supporting cast. Method Man, J.B. Smoove, Sam Rockwell and Jessica Hecht? Even if they're all bit roles that still seems pretty great.

I really did not like Your Highness and I had been so excited to see it. It had only one good line. On the other hand I think that Pineapple Express, which I actually saw after Your Highness, is one of the best movies I saw all year (and speaking of Days of Heaven, I saw that this year too, so that's high praise!) I
