Oh yeah, I meant to elaborate that I thought the visual image of Auschwitz as it is today would seem mundane because of its context amidst everything else I experience in my life.

I'm tempted to say that a good Holocaust movie might be a movie of Maus, except I think it doesn't "need" to be made into a movie (though there are definitely great books that didn't "need" to be made into movies that made great movies).

I haven't seen Schindler's List, but I can think of way worse and more horrific shit than what you described (acid showers, blindfold shooting) and than was depicted in this trailer either. For example (warning: really gruesome things follow) at least he didn't show how when guards pulled corpses stacked bodies deep

I like Katherine Heigl a lot. Or at least the character she plays in every movie. I like the way she looks professional but hot at the same time and is totally type-A. Plus, she's pretty.

Huh
I watched the trailer. Having read a pretty good amount about the Holocaust, and Auschwitz in particular, my attitude after reading this article was like "Well, he kind of has a point that lots of films set during the Holocaust *are* special interest stories that gloss over the concentration camps and the reality

*Breath

Oh man - that montage to Take My Breath Away was a staple of my childhood. I sort of conflated all of those films in my head and for some time I thought that Take My Breath Away was featured prominently on the soundtrack of Ghost.

Oh yeah, I meant to imply that both Royal Tenenbaums and Charlie Brown Christmas were part of the noxious played-over-and-over-at-work collection yet I didn't tire of them.

Thank you!

Something I remember about watching Clueless as a kid, repeatedly, is the music video to "Alright" that came packaged on the VHS after the movie. I've never heard anyone else mention it though.

I love the Royal Tenenbaums soundtrack so much. We've had the same collection of CDs at work for like a million years but I still never get sick of it.

When I was like 15 I went through a phase of having The Wall (film) playing on mute while listening to Marilyn Manson, and sometimes I'd watch this VHS of Marilyn Manson videos on mute while listening to Pink Floyd. I watched The Wall so many times.

Trainspotting for me too probably
I also really loved The Social Network's soundtrack. I've seen it three times so far and it's one of my favorite parts of the movie, especially the opening scenes when he's running through Harvard Yard.

I thought she was good in Never Let Me Go.

I always thought she was at least sort of "ethnic" too. Hmm.

I eventually read the book. It's OK, but I'm not sure it's better than the movie, and it's not as good as the book of Jurassic Park (which I think is a lot better than the movie). I went through a big Michael Crichton phase ages 12-14 or so.

Congo was my favorite movie when I was a little kid. I watched it over and over again.

The Information you should go to Myopic Books in Wicker Park. It's insufferable (I work in an independent bookstore where we are interested in being nice and accommodating to customers), you'll love it.

The Happy Mondays songs that make it into the film are the best ones. That's almost my favorite movie ever. I like the way they do the suicide scene in 24-Hour Party People better than the one in Control. That said I really liked Control, too.

The remastered version of Temptation on the Factory Records compilation was seriously like a religious experience for me. It's so good. Everything's Gone Green on there sounds just about as good. My other favorite song is the live Transmission (from Unknown Pleasures I think?).
