First thing I thought of, too.

Eh, I don't know. Much like the recent Dane Cook thing, this joke doesn't seem interesting - or, more importantly, funny - enough to garner much of a reaction.

"You want me to have the President dodge a call from the UN Secretary-General and not know why?"
"Yeah. Can you swing that?"
"If I could, that would be troubling, wouldn't it?"

Well done on Twentieth Century. I feel like that one gets overshadowed by His Girl Friday and Bringing up Baby, but they're all pretty much peers, in my book.

These specific director lists are always a blast. Example: Coppola lists not one, but two Scorsese movies on his list, which is actually pretty sweet of him.
I'd rather see the opposite of what @avclub-3bca94e353e508c1a49bf984fc5c346d:disqus aptly describes occur: Godard could stand to get knocked down a peg or two while Lean receives more of the respect he once had.

What's to devour? That's a great list.
It'd be nothing short of a miracle to ever see it ranked on the Sight and Sound poll, but I'm willing to bet that The Thing got a couple of votes. Plenty of younger directors and critics that they included in the bunch this time around, a good portion of which probably, rightfully count The Thing as gospel. Maybe one…
Man, I sure hope so. It'd be terrific, decades on down, to see something like Toy Story or Beauty and the Beast ranked somewhere on the list.

Oh, yeah, I agree with @avclub-45d15693cb729fefc030a41d117da9c1:disqus. Cary Grant is certainly more animated in the likes of His Girl Friday, The Awful Truth, and Bringing up Baby, but he's never gave a better performance than Notorious, with the exception of maybe Only Angels Have Wings.
Amazing scene. But the part in Vertigo that really kills me comes earlier, when Judy emerges into the room, fully transformed into Madeline, bathed in that weird, neon glow, and they do that pull-in to Stewart's face - my god, the look on his face at the moment has never failed to give me chills.
Goodness, it destroys me, and I'm not a parent. I mean, it's certainly worth your time, but its subject matter couldn't exactly be described as "sunny." Have the tissues in plentiful supply.
