Dubstep
Great to see a bit of Dubstep hitting the The A.V. Club review section; I believe a big-up is in full order, Mr. Battaglia.

Big-up Hyden
Man, I've got some reservations about some of your critiques, but I'm glad to see this feature's back—and on the front page, no less. Mad love.

Regarding the review sizes: I´m pretty sure that they wanted to increase the amount of music they could review within a given week without hiring a glut of new people to do music reviews.
Noel:
"I also pick up extra cash polishing Keith's golden hat"
Yeah,
That's totally understandable, and when I say "generally favorable", I'm not saying I see you shooting "A"'s from the hip whenever you get the chance, just a lot of "B"'s and "B+"'s. But it's good to see that you'd say that even 8 to 10 records a year meet that standard, that's still a lot, and although I have…
Have to ask
Noel, a question: how does this marginal amount of good songs on albums affect what I see to be generally good reviews that you give in your music section? I'm not trying to be accusatory, or say that you're not giving fair grades but are the filler songs just more pleasant on your well graded albums then…
Lukewarm?
They gave it a B+, I'd say that leans more to the warm side of things.
Hipsters
This whole idea of hipsters and music snobs has gotten me a little miffed. As near as I can tell, having an obscure taste in music doesn't necessarily denote somebody that lords that taste over others. No, what I hear being described is an asshole, and who the hell gives credence to someone who comes down on…
Modest Mouse
Well, at least Jay-Z advertising the blueberry after an acceptance speech at the Rock and Roll hall of fame was done in his natural, sell-out style… But this is actually more garish than surprising.
His album was good…
and makes a decent case for the whole mash-up concept. Probably the best, if not the only definitive one yet. So forgive me if it strikes me as a bit odd that people seem to be roasting him for having such little knowledge about sixties roots music, a genre that has little to do with him.
Funeral: Innovative? Novelty?
Not to rag on anyone (after all, I'm a huge Arcade Fire fan), but was Funeral really that innovative? I think that it was more so just a great, expertly done indie rock record, that had enough elements in it to appeal to almost anyone.
Great Talk
I'll admit that while I always enjoyed the crosstalks, I always felt that there was a little too much compromise on either side. I've only been reading for about a year though, so it may have been more devisive before I started reading but that was an excellent debate that brought up a lot that I hadn't…
