316 – Virtual Systems Analysis

"Vincent and the Doctor" is the best Doctor Who episode, and I'll fight anyone who says otherwise.

Uhh… there actually are. Like all the people who loved the show because how "badass" Walt was, thought "Fly" was the worst episode because it was the most boring or whatever, or the classic "nothing happened" argument.

It's one of the best hockey quotes of recent times.

I'd go with The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.

Lightning vs. Sabres.  Clash of the titans.

The pilot is great.  The end scene with Winona is still one of the show's best, and there are a ton of memorable lines.

I'd argue that the finale isn't open-ended at all: it presents the illusion (to both the characters and the audience) of possibility, but we know exactly what's going to happen regardless.  It's a really lovely moment.

I'm not a fan of The Wire's finale; it's not that it's bad or anything, or even not good, it just doesn't measure up to the rest of the series.

Sullivan Stapleton is also awesome.

The Breaking Bad finale summed up a lot of the problems I have with the show, that have increased rapidly since around the end of the third season.  It was executed well, but works better as a finale of seasons four and five (especially the latter) than as a finale of the entire series.

I highly recommend checking this show out, by the way.  It's really quite excellent, and much subtler and quieter than its sort of pulpy premise might indicate.  There's some really great character work and acting on display here, and the direction, music, visual style, and dialogue really do a superb job of
