Friends has always been the kind of show that was entertaining enough to watch when it aired but felt dated even a year later. There are a handful of episodes that have aged well. This is one of the few that is still enjoyable.

You know, I just realized that maybe the group was supposed to not care more than not understand what Lydia was saying. If that's the case, I understand the reaction more.
