A few years ago I saw the Cheers pilot on tv and I was stunned at how funny that show was right out of the gate. It managed to avoid most of the pilot pitfalls.

I'm just going to assume there was an offscreen conversation between Willow and Angel after Buffy's death where she mentions to him about the whole Dawn thing. After all, we do see Willow at the Hyperion afterwards, just not the part where she actually tells everyone.
It's been awhile since I've seen these Angel episodes, but I think it's stated, or implied that Angeles knows everything that Angel knows. It's just that Angel doesn't know everything Angeles knows. Angel knows about Dawn, therefore so does Angeles. After all, Angeles wasn't confused about who Fred, Gunn, Connor,…
Start with the finale to season 4 because it sets up everything for season 5.
And don't worry, you will not have cause to spend the season yelling stfu to connor/cordy. I won't say why. Just relax and enjoy.
