For what it's worth, I was pretty much the "other guy" in a similar situation (except for the abusiveness as far as I know) and am now happily married to the "your best friend" equivalent. I know my wife's friends at the time were more or less directly encouraging her to cheat, although not with me particularly.

Wait, what…

You're obviously not a hippie.

Dear @Nudeviking:disqus , first of all sibling incest is a huge taboo (and rightly so), but parent-child incest is at least in my book MUCH worse. So if the Kingslayer had been banging his kid, I don't think we would let anything slide and I don't think George Martin would be able and willing to write a redeeming arc

Hi @avclub-64ad8f3af92ef8d9a1c7dfd7265e577d:disqus - I am and Amsterdammer! (yes yes, in the that!)

God, I feel for the guy playing Joffrey. He absolutely nails it, but after such a vile character he's gonna be hard to cast.

@avclub-d980b15d49101608dc407770f35b1d75:disqus , yeah, it's not like it's House.

Hey, my Dutch last name is from the 1450's (or 1540's, I forget). It just became mandatory to have one under Napoleon.

Dear @zebbart:disqus and @avclub-9b2bc912161b0c3a58730ec8ce7e83ad:disqus ,

I'm 36 and actually quite liked the one or two Skrillex songs i've ever heard.

I have a pasta making machine sitting on my shelve, with a font on it's box that I can't help but read as Part-a-fart.

People even seem to resent a well rounded and multi-faceted talent nowadays. For instance Carice van Houten. She is a little known in the US for Zwartboek and Game of Thrones, but in her (and my) native country she is the most acclaimed actress of her generation. Recently she released an album as a singer-songwriter

Halfway through book three and I'm glad I got out on time.

@avclub-e57f718840a576abbb40a7d046c4e3b0:disqus , you seem to be the right person to ask this. I've dropped out of this series halfway the third book. There is just one thing I need to know. How low have the neck lines gotten by the end of book 14?

@avclub-8f1899cdb606a3c7a0aa80d617eb123b:disqus Agreed on the variety in difficulty between Arkham Horror games. One of my most memorable play-through was when we were lucky at the start and got very powerful equipment. This made the game very easy. But then it took a VERY long time for the win conditions to arise. So

Yeah, I completely get what you're saying. I'm not sure it would hold up nowadays, but as a kid, that really was a genuine thrill ride.

Once in a game of BSG I had the opportunity to check whether another player was a Cylon. Unfortunately I misinterpreted the card and thought  he was human while he wasn't (pretty dumb, because the cards are extremely clear). This made for some very interesting dynamics for the rest of the game and of course much

My board game obsessed friend recently bought Mansions of Madness. This is set in the same Lovecraftian world as Arkham Horror and uses the same characters, but instead of walking around in a town, you explore a mystery in a single mansion (different every time).

One of the people I've played Arkham with a lot is a pretty brilliant strategist and he found a quite simple strategy that makes it almost impossible to loose Vanilla Arkham. I'm not sure this will work with the expansions though.

@avclub-5b7e0a1ad5d9ac9ef3063b05f55b6d31:disqus I don't play go my self, but I sometimes cook at go-camps my friend organizes. In between games of go, they play about every game mentioned in this article + threads so it's a lot of fun for me as a board game player as well.
