If you're into that kind of thing, try Armor by John Steakley as well.

Actually, there have been a couple dogfights involving US fighters, but the planes run out of gas or ammo without either side doing any damage.  Everyone goes home and it doesn't make the news for more than a mention that there was a little dustup because it's not exciting enough and / or the news people don't really

Dude you and me both.  After reading the thread for a while, I started thinking "Fuck this shit" must be some kind of bigot / hate code I don't know about.  That got me worried because "Fuck this shit" is something I say at work on a daily or hourly basis and maybe I'm not down with some underground lingo where that

@TashaRobinson:disqus , I unfortunately can't see the film, but based on location, I think @avclub-98530f53424595f570ee1988777f5d91:disqus  is right to immediately think of the rape angle.  In most secluded parts of the world (in fact, the entire world except perhaps for a couple elusive pockets of civilization), when

Considering the rest of the plan involved having a hundred ninjas who had spent years training for stealthy infiltrations rappel fifty feet down ropes into the center of a room filled with bright lights and soldiers with machine guns, the Asian Bond disguise was downright competent.

I think you're right; it's something about the period that either audiences don't connect to or is difficult to promote effectively.  Sort of falls between cracks in target audience groups and marketing strategies tailored for them.  I saw JC, Time Machine, and Cowboys & Aliens, and although I found none of them

OK, that's funny; my recollection of the middle third or so of that movie would not have caused me to guess it was a Spike Lee movie as it seemed below his standards of writing and direction.  I like his stuff that I've seen, but like I say about my own work occasionally, they can't all be gems, right?

Since most of the comments seem to be focused on how hard this is to comment on, I'll rise to the challenge and say something hopefully discourse-provoking.

I was on my second deployment to the Persian Gulf with a Navy recon squadron doing enforcement of the sanctions then in force on Iraq when 9/11 happened.  Great times up to then.  The Gulf was as peaceful as it had been in 30+ years (a relative term, to be sure, but still), the missions we were doing were important

Yeah, you're probably right.  I'm on a ship with a super slow connection, so every time I'm successful in getting the little comment box to pop up without timing out, I get all excited.

I'm not sure how a guy who graduated from Harvard Law and steadfastly refused to do anything of consequence with the myriad opportunities laid out before him is qualified in any way to talk about people like McCain and Obama.  Also, I think there was a lot going on for McCain in 2008 besides Obama being black.  I
