As somewhat of a geek on evolutionary theory I have to say I like the ideas the Shadow's present but they miss the point that the evolution of beings that can formulate abstract ideas allows for an evolution of ideas beyond the simpler chemical encoding systems we carry around.

Never saw that before but hell, this show is constantly surprising by how even seemingly stand-alone stuff that might be a bit of world-building at best like that can work in the larger context. Was that ever explicitly stated?
