All praise due Brothers Quay… I remember the moment of disappointment upon discovering that they weren't the ones responsible for those early Tool videos…
You just almost made coffee come out of my nose.
…with a law degree is a chimp with a machine gun
And by "gets turned into" you mean "has always more-or-less been"?
I've heard that album… You mean Pussy Galore "covered" all of Exile On Main Street… Fixed that for you.
'95 was, I believe, the year I discovered The Magnetic Fields (including Stephin Merritt's side project The 6ths)… Yes, this was pre-'69 Love Songs' era, but from 'Get Lost' and earlier, there were just SO MANY fantastic songs I had trouble fitting all my favorites on a 100-minute cassette (my preferred format at the…
Homer (to Billy): "You know my kids think you're the greatest, and thanks to your gloomy music they've finally stopped dreaming of a future I can't possibly provide."
19-frickin'-95… The Usual Suspects, 12 Monkeys and 7even… All 3 films were in my Top 10 favorite films of all time for years.
The jump-scare in the "Sloth" segment messed me up like crazy (oh my God, he's ALIVE?)
I get excited when I hear Real Life's "Send Me an Angel" too, but I just have a thing for early-to-mid 80's new wave music.
Missed the first 20 minutes, so you still got the Spanish Inquisition song.
You're certain it was for deodorant and not Ocean Breeze soap? ("Ocean Breeze soap will get you clean" or maybe "It's like being on an ocean cruise, except there's no boat and you don't actually go anywhere")
Used to spend a lot of time (and $) at Tower Records, and knew friends and local musicians that worked there in the early 90's… Pretty much every one of them saw the movie, and hated it. That "Never Met a Girl Like You Before" song from the soundtrack that people initially thought was David Bowie was a great tune…
I've met him, and he does!
I just remember them releasing like 4 videos from the album, trying and failing to get a mainstream crossover hit (I myself thought "Aeroplane" would be a sure thing… I was mistaken). Oh, and "Warped" was a weird and ballsy choice for a first single.
…and a maturing Joe Piscopo had left Saturday Night Live.
My friend pointed out if we tried to do the whole film, when we got to the "viddy films" scene where Alex undergoes his treatment bound in a straight jacket, the scientist applying the eyelid-openers would be stymied by Grover's lack of eyelids.
The muppetized Jax, Tig, Bobby, and especially Clay on the Sons of Anarchy parody are amazing.
Many years ago my friends and I had wanted to pitch A Clockwork Monster… Just the opening scene where the camera pulls back from a super close-up of Alex's face, only it's Grover of course, with his droogs.. we never settled on which muppets would be Georgie and Pete, but Cookie Monster would be Dim.
