Same thing with Ayn Rand books…

Damn… One of my fave bands of all time appears on an Onion A.V. Gateways and I don't become aware of it until a month and a half later?  Anyway, amazing band… Grrrrr…

Any Cure/Banshees fans willing to back me up on The Glove's 'Blue Sunshine'?

Aw hell yeah:  "Abfackeln!"

I think 'Swordfishtrombones' is sufficiently appreciated by most critics (even if 'Rain Dogs' gets more love)

'Reach the Beach' may not have gotten much critical respect (two star review in Rolling Stone at the time - don't ask me why I remember that) but it had 3 hit singles: "Saved By Zero", "Sign of Fire" and "One Thing Leads to Another", all of which sound pretty "out there" for commercial radio.

Was "Burn" the last song they did with Boris Williams as their drummer?  He was fantastic… I think his absence is one of the reasons they went downhill so quickly starting with WMS…

…and a better album than 'Disintegration' IMO.

I think Mild Wood Swings could have been a better album if they had made it shorter, and swapped out some of the weaker tacks with the better b-sides like "A Pink Dream"

Love this version of "Charlotte Sometimes" by Tampoline… originally from 'Give Me the Cure':  http://www.youtube.com/watc… …spare, haunting… might even prefer it to the original… From the same album, Shudder To Think pretty much nails "Shake Dog Shake"

I have a weekly gig singing and playing guitar at a local restaurant… Muppet tunes will pop up once in a while: "Rainbow Connection", "It's Not Easy Being Green", "C is for Cookie" (if there are young children about)… Tried this song once… Couldn't get through it; had to stop singing every 15 seconds to keep myself

Best line:  "A skunk was badgered, the results were strong / I hope that somethin' better comes along"

With the prominent mandolin and the song transposed to a major key, the verses sound like "You Are the Everything" from 'Green'.  Anyone else hear it?

There's a lovely, haunting acoustic version of “Charlotte Sometimes” by a band called Trampoline that gives me goosebumps.  It's from a Cure tribute album that came out in the 90's called 'Give Me the Cure'.  Well worth searching out.

"You Set My Soul" from that Telescopes album is quietly sublime.

Always loved Velocity Girl… Do you mean their first EP with "Forgotten Favorite" and "I Don't Care If You Go" or their debut full-length 'Copacetic'?  Uneven, and a bit twee (not a bad thing in my book) but there are some sparkling pop gems among the sonic sludge.  Their follow-up '!Simpatico!' abandons shoegaze

Great bit of trivia.  "Perish" in particular is such a gorgeous song.  Great band overall - never put out an album not worth having.  "Superblaster" & "Turkey Crossing" from Cuckoo are 2 of my personal faves… And in case no one has mentioned it yet, I hope Shirley & Butch from Garbage have been sending Toni & Dean
