The internet is amazing.
The internet is amazing.
Matt Bomer's presence in the show made me forget a few reasons why I've been cursing Ryan Murphy's name recently. Also, the fact that I've had a few weeks without Glee wherein I've been watching Smash crash and burn off of a cliff probably helped my enjoyment of this episode.
They weren't, and not that I'm trying to wave some sort of PC flag, it just seemed like the only time the entire season (this is the first one I've watched) where I heard one of the queens being referred to by a male pronoun.
Again, new to the drag world (although I'm loving every minute of it), just curious if this…
I could very well be reading too much into this, but I have a drag ettiquette question. During the bickering after Chad Michaels assigned the dogs to everyone, Phi Phi referred to Chad Michaels as he. It was kind of surprising to me because it was the first time I heard any of the queens refer to each other using a…
My money's on coke.
There will be a day when I see Theon on the show or I'm discussing the show and Theon's name comes up when I don't say, "who the fuck is that guy, again?" Not there quite yet.
Also, for someone like me who has the memory of a goldfish, the enhanced viewing on HBOGO is absolutely essential (also helped a lot during…
I'm weirdly okay with the will they / won't they stuff, mostly because this show is so tonally different than Friends, HIMYM, Castle, Bones, etc. I'd rather see Alex and Dave together than Dave and Penny, though. I still feel like there's a lot unresolved about their previous relationship.
I think they showed us Julia and Joe DiMaggio kissing on the Brooklyn Bridge. Not sure if that was supposed to be a flashback to their first affair or not.
I really like Brian d'Arcy James and want his character to have a story that's not centered around the affair.
Oh my, we definitely watched different shows. I thought this was HORRIBLE.
-The Ivy/Karen scene in Times Square? Yeah, I really couldn't get past the fact that we had seen Ivy dangerously hopped up on pills, and then she and Karen were drinking straight liquor out of a bottle. Yes, when you mix prescription pills and…
Someone mentioned last week that the show is better when it avoids sounding like an afterschool special. I kind of had to agree a bit in this episode. The show is not geared towards straight, jocky, homophobic men. I don't really understand what the point was in having each of the queens get through to her DILF and…
I haven't read the books, but in the NYT interview with Peter Dinklage (which, to summarize, yes, indeed, he IS the motherfucking man) they mention that he's been signed for six seasons.
@avclub-d80ecbbbef6ab40a4e53d1ad2c3fc1b2:disqus , they actually renamed a few characters for the show (Robert Arryn in the book to Robin in the show) because of similar sounding names, I guess they thought Bronn/Bran was okay.
Curious if any other newbies are considering reading the books? I keep going back and forth between whether I will or not. I have almost finished reading book one, which is hard for me to finish since I know what's going to happen. I feel like if I read the books, my experience watching the show will be like watching…
I really appreciate your excellent points and great reply, but I have serious doubts that BBT is doing something as thoughtful and nuanced as what you're describing.
However, since you are a gay man and I am not, I will hold my discomfort and self-righteous offense and see where the show goes with this story.
@Curly Jefferson, good point. I never thought of it in terms of actor/comedian.
I didn't listen to the podcast you're talking about, but I think this is my biggest gripe with alt-comedy. You can't just not find something funny, clearly you "didn't get it."
And I do like some alt-comedy, I have more of a problem with the audiences.
It seemed like she was someone who had a lot of shit in their past, but who had found a way to come to peace with it all. (Unlike say… Dave Foley as an obvious, don't have to think about it, answer)
It was a rare episode where Marc's anger and contempt for a young person's fame and success was successfully hidden during the podcast.
Even judging the show by it's own merits, this was in no way an A episode. I enjoyed all the Penny/Sheldon/Leonard stuff, but found the entire Raj is Gay plotline borderline offensive. Maybe I'm being oversensitive, it just didn't strike me as funny at all.
Gonna disagree on Jay Pharoah being terrible. I've always thought his impressions were spot on. He actually reminds me of Bill Hader when he first started. I just wish Paroah were being given as many chances as Hader was to break the image of being "the impressions guy."
