The Busiek/Bagley Thunderbolts run was very cool.  I hope Marvel puts it into a couple of those fancy omnibus editions at some point.

Add me to the list of people that won't touch anything Lindelof or Cuse ever work on again.  That smug 2010 Sepinwall interview was the last straw.

Are we sure this is Bradley Cooper?  I can never tell the difference between him and that British dude on Odyssey 5.

These dudes haven't worked with the same artists throughout their run, though.  The best example I can think of is Bendis and Bagley, or Bendis and Maleev.  Any others come to mind?  An occasional one-issue fill-in artist is okay, but deliberating alternating every six or so issues drives me crazy.

The numbering matters less to me than the practice of never keeping the same creative team on a book longer than 6 issues.  How can we expect any sort of meaningful storytelling from superhero comics?  One writer had a great idea for Scott Summers, so he starts working towards that, and in 12 issues somebody else

Prediction: By the end of Avengers vs. X-men, Marvel will generate several new #1s that they'll rearrange and relaunch again in another 18 months during their next big event.  Stuff like this is why I stopped buying Marvel comics 11 or 12 years ago.  The Heroes Reborn thing was like the scary opening salvo, and now

The distinct voices thing is HUGELY important in terms of accessibility, for sure.

I'd entertain an argument for Mass Effect 2, but the first one?  The one where every side mission led you to the exact same generic space bunker, and every planet looked exactly the same?  No.  The story presentation is the ONLY good thing about that game.

Controversial opinion: XII comes close, though they have nothing in common.  Final Fantasy XII has an interesting story, (some) characters that aren't children, the most enormous and immersive world to explore, and the best battle system.  It was the same idea behind the ATB that had been FF's bread and butter for a

@avclub-c15dfaf8b43d970a74db1883f482e7a6:disqus I prefer Smash 64 for one reason: the controller.  Specifically the responsiveness of the cancel/shield button.  Melee is a superior game, but I can't stand those fucking springy shoulder buttons on the thing I have to use to play it.
