Poor Richard Heller.

I love that dead guy line & his reading of it, similar to his matter-of-fact, "spry, for a dead guy" while everyone else gapes in shock.

Interesting—thanks for replying.  I was actually really moved by Conner also but it was because of all of his angst so I guess Lawson struck that same chord with me.

SPOILERS
How did you feel about Conner?  I thought of Lawson as a sort of parallel, in that he was presented as being a different kind of vampire due to, um, ennui I guess? (my memory is hazy) & Angel offers that he may be unusual because he was the only person ever sired by a vampire with a soul.  Conner is another

SPOILERS
My memory is hazy as well, but I think the conceit was that Spike never knew about Angel's soul during that period, no?  He assumes that Angelus was one of the prisoners & preens a bit at being in the company of those like "The Scourge of Europe" since it proves that the Nazis were targeting the baddest of the

I recall a discussion on another board that speculated on whether geography &/or familiarity with the luchadores culture had anything to do with how much the fan enjoyed this episode.  To those of you who hated or were indifferent, does that seem to have any bearing?  Just curious.

Stoned, incoherent but cheered by the sprinkling of defenders of regular targets in these here parts.  I mean, it's fine to shit on whatever you want in this country, yay us, (I worry that this will sound sarcastic but it's not.  I really am yaying us!  "Us" not "US" but not NOT "US."  I mean, jingoism vs. patriotism

Glad to see Bob Ducca get a little love!

That Schwartz & the Eddie Pepitone eps are the ones I pass on to people I like who work near my cubicle so I can feel pleased with myself when I hear them laugh out loud.

Another vote for The Long Shot & The Dork Forest.  DF isn't always great but Jackie Kashian's endearing personality goes far to elevate conversations with the duller guests.  Everyone on TLS delivers something distinct & awesome.  Jackie on TLS #408 made for a whole equal to the sum of it's parts.

This discussion makes me idly wonder if "Ghostwritten" would have made for a better movie, though "Cloud Atlas" is the better novel, I think.  Similar rewards & challenges but without this timeline issue that just bugs.

Oooooh, there was an AVC discussion on Cloud Atlas?  Perfect for running down the hours on this wasted work day.  Thanks!

For me, it felt like Night Watch took it up a notch in terms of consequence & darkness.  I used to skim the books as they were published because they were reliable for amusement & had childhood nostalgia value.  But then Night Watch made me cry.  Purely subjective…I'd love to hear a more academic perspective if anyone

Big Vimes fan here as well.  I started reading the series as a kid & faithfully picked up each new installment over the years but Night Watch was the 1st one that made the switch in my head from a pleasant, habitual diversion to something more.  I immediately reread the previous city watch books with a new

Hey Casey, Clyde Decker thinks that hat makes you look like an idiot.

I think it does help to be spoiled on "Ashes of Time" before seeing it, if only to eliminate the distraction of trying to follow the plot & characters so you can let it wash over you, like a poem. The theater where I saw the original passed out a crib sheet before the screening.

TFNGTAAC & MBMBAM
Hey, big thanks to those of you who recommended "The Field Negro Guide to Arts & Culture" & "My Brother, My Brother & Me" in the past few weeks! Maybe the two oddest, delightful things I have learned recently while flying through their archives are that Vernon Reid's favorite podcast is "You look

"So the Dracula dude, he broke up with her for NO reason. He's like 'I'm with you forever,' then all of a sudden, 'gotta go' …" "…so then he gonna go kill himself in the sunlight."

Prick Decay, I find the A&J show to be inconsistent & like you, don't care much for song parodies but their now-legendary discussion of R. Kelly's "Trapped in a Closet" videos is probably one of the funniest things I've ever experienced. And to be fair, it was my first taste of the show so my expectations for the
