I have never in my life met a fellow transgender person that uses alternative pronouns. It's not a common thing in the trans community. It's not totally unheard of, but I see it a lot more in very small circles of genderqueer tumblr people than I hear about it happening in day to day interaction. It's not really a

@Dikachu:disqus This is a pretty hotly contested issue in parts of the LGBT community, actually- but from the other side. There are a lot of cisgender gay people (usually but not always the older assimilationist middle class bunch) that are happy to kick trans people out of the group because we keep inconveniently

O'Neal actually talks directly to the tier 1 posters??

That's much more interesting than my experience with challenge coins. Then again I don't drink with my uncle because I filled my quota of insane Benghazi conspiracies ages ago thanks to the internet.

Here's an explainer for everyone who doesn't have a weird marine uncle in the family: Challenge coins are a weird military thing. You get them for doing stuff. They are not very interesting to hear about at family gatherings.

I assume @avclub-1d3d0153024bb1a02cbaafeda54a4963:disqus means any of the animated bits or faux commercial bits and the like that SNL has been doing for ages.

@avclub-b2a1da123acbee8ada6d584671408900:disqus This is an excellent post. It's worth reiterating (because the AV Club is still the internet, where nuanced criticism is generally reacted to with blind rage) that a movie doesn't need women, or, you know, maybe just one black guy? anywhere in the town? maybe? to be

Someone hasn't seen "A Fistful of Fingers". British people…

@avclub-5d213468da8857324393c707fb3f6f67:disqus Saying he hasn't been charged is a little misinformed- Swedish law doesn't work like American law, and charges don't come before a trial like they do in American and British courts. We should understand that if this was happening in a British court, he would have been

Too bad, she's already cast as Batwoman in my desperate batwoman/the question buddy cop-romance-action spec script (dania ramirez is renee montoya)

"This seems to be a case where the reviewer is reviewing the movie on the criteria of the movie he wanted to see,"

Yeah. I don't know, maybe Katy Perry hasn't ever suffered a day in her life, but I can't imagine the mindset I'd have to be in to say "I think she's pandering to the fat girl audience" and not just feel like a gaping sticky asshole afterwards.

Is the point of hatesong to make everyone that gets interviewed look like a bitter asshole?

Someone please purge these comments with a fucking napalm strike

That makes a lot of sense. I didn't know that, thanks!

Yeah, I see your point, and it's valid. But Red ran a restaurant and Piper presumably did go to college- Sophia was a firefighter. It's a bit of a leap for me. Ultimately, though, my attitude is that you take an imperfect portrayal over no portrayal or a bad portrayal.

IIRC it's right at the start of her episode. The makeup thing seems to happen a lot during title credits- which is a shame, because Tootsie did it well, and no one else ever has.

As a trans* person I have mixed feelings toward Sophia and her portrayal. She's a great character in a lot of ways, not the least of which is Laverne Cox's astoundingly good performance. But the way she's written indulges in some really cheesy stereotypes even as she shatters others. I'm really grateful she's neither

I don't know if Kyle Baker counts as an alt-comics guy, but I'm posting about Plastic Man anyway.
