Hmm. Well, I admit I've been inconsistent with my rewatching. I remember just liking her a lot during the original run and that's probably colored my impressions.  In my rewatch, I definitely notice how much older she is than the other girls though.  When I watched the originals I was too young myself to notice that.

Whatever happened to Meredith Monroe? I mean, I know I can look up what happened to her on imdb or whatnot, but she was definitely one of the best actors on Dawson's Creek and it feels like her career never lived up to her ability.

No. I just doubled checked in a few dictionaries. Notoriety means "a situation in which someone or something is famous for something bad", "the state of being famous or well known for some bad quality or deed", etc. A thesaurus isn't precise.
