Especially when it's everything that's available for free. If I were a musician I doubt I would want my music stolen on the hope that maybe some of the people will actually pay for one of my other albums.

Can't we let them make that decision? Is it really our place to say that they should get over having their music stolen because maybe one of the thieves may buy a t-shirt at some undefined point in the future? Should we place moral restrictions on stealing, like frowning upon it if you live in a town the band will…
It's definitely not applicable to the literary world. It's not like authors get all that sweet, sweet revenue selling out auditoriums for book readings.
I would like to see the actual numbers on how giving away music helps artists in general. This notion that artists should provide the music as a promotional tool for shows seems like a convenient excuse for one to make while stealing their music. Somehow I doubt your typical indie band is fine losing tens of thousands…
"Here's Ben Richards, now plain zero."
Well it's right there in the article so take it up with Fox.
I disagree, it's clearly meant to be thumbed through in your doctor's waiting room while you wait for that women to put down the Time Magazine.
It's a top five show, so it seems to be doing fine.
Yes but due to killing all its customers that business will fail in favour of one that only waters down their drinks, and the invisible hand corrects everything once again.
I make good coin so I am now in the habit of paying for all my music. I don't think I've downloaded a torrent in a couple years.
Her voicework on this is just embarrassing. If Bill Murray could show up for Garfield she should get her act together for this.
jesus, he mentions his useless Cambridge english degree in every comment thread?
The obvious answer is because I don't want to spend $30 to see if I like the rest of the catalog, or spend a bunch of time sifting through b-sides on youtube. I'm asking people who love Wye Oak what a good entry point is. What exactly is the purpose of your comment other then to puff out some bullshit?
It sounds like you're one of the pretentious pseudo-academics you're panning. Nothing she writes fits into this category you've created to throw anything into that you personally hate.
Name one other commentator introduced by Josh Modell who fits the description at the end of your first paragraph.
What album would you recommend? I bought the last one but was never really grabbed by it. I didn't dislike it but was never really encouraged to put it on more than a few times.
But this is just your opinion! Does the AVClub really have to strive for the impossible standard of pleasing everyone with every column? I detest hatesong because it's always some hack musician taking on someone with actual musical talent (even if the song is annoying) but that's precisely why I don't read it. I don't…
haha, wow, your response completely missed the point @wafflicious:disqus was making. I actually heard a wooshing sound in my head.
She's a regular Andy Kaufwoman! Like that kind of joke? Anyway, I like her, her articles don't change my world but they're amusing.
It's just content, relax. It's free and there is an assload of information on this site. It's not like the AVClub is solely spitting out Carmen's articles now.
