Eeesh.

I'm sorry. I'm a big underground* comics fan, including (especially of?) those made by women**, but Gloekner just …skeeves me out too much to really enjoy. She means to do that, of course, but I don't think I'm willing to meet the challenge.

His Replicas album rules, though.

…Roberta Flack?

Eh, I honestly think she's just an eccentric, in the old, pre-indie quirk sense of the word. "Batshit" seems like a too negative word (to me) to apply to her.

Sure, why not.

I haven't dared watch it, but: is the Lena Dunham/Spike Jonze/Avicii film they showed as horrible as it sounds?

Actually, I've always wondered: since Liv was raised by Todd Rundgren (long story), and given how he treats pretty much every other woman, exactly how…parental does Steven feel towards her?

I don't. I really, REALLY don't.

The dangers of nostalgia?

I was 1 - same.

Exactly. Who cares if he's putting us on? It fails as straight art, and it fails as ironic art. It just fails all around.

Almost like some sort of super-man - or ubermensch, if you will.

'Indie' film culture as a whole needs to die out. It's fucking meaningless as a description at this point (now that the studios are entirely blockbuster-focused, independent filmmaking is an automatic prerequisite for most people interested in movies - it's not some special way of making art), and it's largely failed

Oh, I get that. I'm just wondering why Taylor is (was?) considered to be in the Joni/Neil/Carole category, not the Denver/Croce/Bread category.

The only problem I (a 21-year old) have with him is that he's so aggresively mediocre for his status. I mean, why was he so celebrated at that time? Neil Young I get, Carole King I get, Joni Mitchell I definitely get, but Taylor?

He's not ubiquitous now, but I imagine that the early 70s were a different story. Hence the hate.

…Why does he look like a leprechaun now?
