I don't think many scholarly presses have the money to do a comprehensive scholarly edition of any author, much less Shakespeare. It's sad!

Obviously Ben Jonson lives and comments at AV Club

Marlowe and Kyd were roommates! In fact Kyd died because he caught pneumonia after being thrown in prison and 'questioned' about Marlowe.

FWIW a lot of the work on the New Oxford Shakespeare was done at IUPUI in Indianapolis. None of the scholars are actually from Oxford.

Marlowe should have just paid the damn bar tab

Henry Chettle or GTFO

Influence isn't at stake here. The argument is that Shakespeare and Marlowe actually wrote the play together.

YOU LIETH

I didn't realize Brian Vickers posted at the AV Club

Wrong: Shakespeare wrote for the public *and* nerdy academics

The 1986 Oxford Shakespeare argued that the Henry VI plays were likely co-authored. It's only now that Marlowe's been identified as the co-author.

Well, no, it's relevant who wrote the plays. It's just that we're coming to understand that theatre was a far more collaborative art than earlier scholars had realized. Now that pretty much the entire canon of Early Modern English drama has been digitized, it's easier to identify collaborations and collaborators.

I know thee not old man

I found two Jack Chick comics at the mall the other day, 'You Have a Date' (about a woman going to hell for doing the sex) and 'Men of Peace?' (as the question mark certainly indicates, about Islam). They made my day. Rest in peace you sick son of a bitch.

Patti Smyth's backup vocals save 'Sunset Grill'.

If you keep in mind it's actually a wry song about ignoring a nuclear holocaust it's an absolutely brilliant song.

Upvoted for upvoting Alphaville. Fun fact: the B-side of 'Big In Japan', 'Seeds', is somehow a better song, making it perhaps the greatest single ever released.

Technically, two-hit wonder in the US. 'Brand New Lover' also hit Top 40. And I think 'Come Home With Me Baby' came close.

Horrible news (although, strangely, timely, since Dead Or Alive just released a huge box set with pretty much their entire catalogue.)

I pretty much agree with this, although I far prefer Jason to June.
