THE SCHOOL OF NIGHT YO

'you find that a lot of his characters' oddball lines are specific references to 17th-century political figures who he was making fun of'

Stan Ridgway is a straight-up genius. Even after he left, I think there's a lot of good stuff on the Andy Prieboy albums. Good call.

Good. MSW really improved in season two. More Britt Lower next season please.

The Apollo Crews/Adam Rose match really seemed similar to the kinds of squash matches they show on NXT. More of that would be great.

There are! About a decade ago their catalogue was reissued on CD, and a lot of people on the new wave blogs I used to frequent (back when there were 'new wave blogs') were really excited about them.

Also: he co-produced the first Whodini album.

I hate the term 'one hit wonder' because it's always misapplied, usually in a mocking way. In addition to MWH (a great band; among the most clever lyricists of the early 1980s) and a-ha I stand up for Spandau Ballet, often termed a one-hit-wonder in the US even though they had three top 40 singles ('True' #4, 'Gold'

To clarify it was 'son' in that patronizing, southern/midwestern attempt at collegial endearment. My actual dad would ever only let me get three cars

Oh I don't doubt she's a journalist. I do think that class' teacher is really rude and/or lazy

I'm not so sure; Silicon Valley won't be happy until our entire educational system is replaced with Google and TED talks.

If that's so why the hell didn't the teacher clean off the chalkboard? What does Jane Eyre have to do with journalism? And who the hell uses a chalkboard in 2016?

I think my credit score went up 100 points after I got on a serviceable student loan plan that mandated direct deposit.

My understanding is that teaching money management in high school has been shown not to work because kids are stupid. But I don't entirely disagree.

I had bad credit for ages (student loan default, bitches!) that I worked really hard to rebuild. Mission accomplished: I got a new car last August, and after they ran my credit the dealership manager told me, 'son, with your credit score I'll let you walk off this lot with seven cars.'

Seeing Peter Hook with a tan and prominent pot belly wearing a Hawaiian shirt and trying to smash his guitar at the end of a Monaco show in 1997 was depressing.

To point 2): every week now I'm increasingly perplexed about why they set the show in 1973. If they set it in 75 or 76 the punk/disco/rap/Springsteen/oldies revival stuff would seem more organic, I think.

Possibly. (I thought the pilot and first 2-3 episodes were really good, but this middle stretch has been extremely disappointing.) The increased focus on the music/record label stuff is hopeful. If they can get rid of the murder/mob plots once and for all in the finale, season 2 could be much better.

Ugh that article's depressing as hell. Torpedo Factory's my favorite part of Old Town Alexandria. Of course a few people are going to creatively destroy it to wring a few more bucks out of it.

When he stopped telling jokes, around 2011 or so.
