It's a major stretch. And if this were the case, why'd the Swede even come back to clean bedpans and collect corpses? Why didn't he wait, build up the Natives, and attack Hell on Wheels himself with a slew of Braves?

I was predicting if Doc got to Chicago and Durant was nursed back to health, he would've paid off the man's bounty. Was there a scene of Durant even knowing Doc was wanted? I don't think Bohannon is the type to go and beg Durant to pardon his friend, especially when he's as sick as he is.
