Did anyone else notice if Idris Elba was wearing Harry Dean Stanton's hat? It looked like it to me, but I couldn't tell for sure b/c I've only seen Alien a couple of times.

Cyco, that's pretty close to the only thing they could have been trying to do, assuming it was intentional. I've read some other comments that say that Rafe Spall's accent sounded like a weird British-Southern hybrid also, so maybe they really were going for that? Hopefully?

If I were an alien lifeform and had seen how humans behave, I'd probably be pretty in favor of destroying us, also.

I do not understand your allusions, but I agree with your assertions.

I liked him, but was driving myself crazy trying to figure out where his accent was supposed to be from.

I guess I'm going to offer my thoughts on this one last time and then let it go. I think the purpose of Theron and her father is to offer a more tangible, micro version of the very questions Shaw and Charlie want answered. Many of the characters are coping with the understanding of fatherhood or divine fatherhood.…

I agree that line was unnecessary and heavy-handed, but it was ABSOLUTELY relevant. The nature of a child's relationship to its parent (biological, evolutionary, or divine) was the crux of the entire movie. While Shaw and Charlie are running around, obsessed with WHY were we created and then WHY did they want to…

The more people complain about this, the more shocked I am that it was apparently obscure. We all knew what the movie was about, right? Aliens making people. One or two of the people I was with said they thought it was confusing, but I wrote it off as them being stoned. I thought that opening scene was one of the…

I never thought that because there was no evidence of that, but I guess it's kind of an interesting idea. It would help explain the burning question everyone seems to have of, "WHY did they create us and then suddenly decide to kill us?" I never really thought that question needed an answer, though. Humans suck. Also,…

I thought the opening scene was pretty clear. He seemed proud, purposeful, and knowledgeable about what he was doing. And I knew what the movie I had paid money to see was about, so that helped.
