It is generally felt that EqG is an attempt to get in on some of that sweet, sweet Monster High action. The Monster High toyline has been the best-selling line of girls toys for a couple years now (yes, beating Barbie) and shows no signs of stopping anytime soon.

They compare the fandom to the Adventure Time fandom. This is different from comparing the shows directly, as they are indeed very, very different shows. But they're also both shows aimed at children's demos. FiM is just aimed at a younger age group.

What's not to get? Sometimes fandoms attract fandom-specific names they use as self-identifiers. It doesn't happen all the time; if you're, say, an enormous fan of Game of Thrones, you don't have some cutesy moniker to describe yourself with. But if you're an enormous fan of Star Trek, you can be a Trekkie.
