You are right of course, but it is also true that the episode you cite is directly at odds with how the colonists are treated in DS9, where they are explicitly and repeatedly referred to as Federation citizens.

@avclub-273c731b43888e76241f667576468050:disqus Do you have a cite for that? I'd actually love for that to be clarified, on account of how my knowledge of the canon is that both Numenor itself and the blessings accorded to those dwelling therein came from the Valar, and not their boss. Iluvatar didn't get involved…

Much ink has already been spilled about how shitty the Maquis come off in the prosecution of their private little war, but I've spent some time really thinking about the politics involved, and have come to a conclusion: the Federation fucked up hard, and this is mostly their fault.

In my own head-canon, the bat'leth was deliberately designed to be an awkward weapon by Kahless in order to promote things like ceremonial honor duels rather than having the Empire periodically riven by Civil War.

Quark's "downfall" as a Ferengi, of which he's well aware, is that he's a people person. Quark genuinely likes people and would prefer to be surrounded by pleasant ones who are good customers.

Pedantry: the Dunedain for the most part don't live a long time because of elvish blood. They live a long time because the Valar decided that all of the humans who had the balls to take arms against Morgoth deserved a reward, so they gave them an island and tripled their lifespans. (Prior to being so blessed one of…

They brought in the Reeves-Stevenses for the last season. They have a bit of a tendency to pander to fans (although as I fan I do love me some pandering) but nobody can say they don't 1) understand why people like Star Trek, and 2) understand how to structure a really good Trek story.
