Yeah, I totally fall into number 2. There are images in that show that are really clear in my mind 20+ years later because they were jarringly bizarre. I have been watching for this to come out for a while.

When he was singing Mr Bojangles with a cat in his face, I was sold. I only saw a few more episodes, because either it got cancelled or moved around and I wasnt smart enough to track it fown, but I am totally buying this.

Agreed. Plus, her first disc was more R&B, and that failed, so they tried a different character, and the new one stuck. That kind of shameless genre-shifting (like Bon Jovi) is really sad.

The translation didn't cause any problems for me. The print I saw was done by Janus, who does all the Criterion collection stuff, and they normally pride themselves on doing a good job on their translations. I don't recall this one being a problem.

We saw the documentary "The Mystery of Picasso" (or Draw Something— the Movie) this weekend, and it's clear that Picasso starts with realist sketches underneath and then "picasso-s" them up. It's pretty fascinating to watch.

A local theater is doing a Mizoguchi month, so we went to see Sansho the Baliff this weekend, too. Everything you said up there— dark, dark, dark. Seeing it on a Friday night took us til Saturday afternoon to get over it. You didn't even get into the forehead branding!

I actually enjoyed the box set of his Christmas music but I am a sucker for most takes on Christmas music. Lost that album in a hard drive crash and have to track it down before this holiday season. His original songs were lame, though.
