This summer I've been watching some of the older David Lean films and watched Hobson's Choice.  Plus it has Charles Laughton, although not at his hammiest. Secret Sunshine is great, but must have been difficult for the actress to make.  She is wailing for a good portion of the first half.  Check out Poetry, by the same director.  I enjoyed that one a lot.
