It's not the playing - they're very competent musicians, it's the songwriting. A little too hokey for my taste.

I agree that the Gillian Welch review was a travesty (I left a comment in it to that effect a few days ago), but these guys just seem to be missing something that Gillian and Dave definitely have.

A torrent site I'm a member of just had a great freeleech on afrobeat. That Nigeria Special series is especially great. I also recommend the African Peals compilations. There's about 10 of them, and they're all solid.
