Totally agree with his! And since we're talking about Walter's lobotomy, there's a nice symmetry with Walter wanting to remove parts of his brain to stay human, while Peter is perfectly happy to shove Observer tech in his head when given the opportunity. The son has really learned nothing from the father's mistakes.

It doesn't bother me as much here as it does in other places (say, Kenneth Branagh's Hamlet), mostly because Ben (and the whole showdown) has such strong Christian overtones. That being said, it's still a bit much.

I'm always surprised Justin doesn't sweat MORE, given that he's wearing heavy black robes in the California desert.

Having Todd's excellent recaps (and the discussions they spawned) come to an end is like having the series cancelled all over again.

I can't even put my feelings about Amy Madigan into words, but I suspect that without her performance Iris's seemingly abrupt changes in loyalty and motivation would have seemed inconsistent rather than fascinating. LOVE this episode and the finale, although I'm already sad that the reviews (and my weekly gathering of Carnivale obsessives) are about to come to an end.

I think Iris burning the church is what makes the shift seem so abrupt, since she did such a terrible, evil thing to make Justin more sympathetic/powerful (although, come to think of it, she did dress as a preacher while burning the church down, which caused people to blame Justin, so maybe there's more ambiguity

I really like Iris too, but I find some of her motivations here to be murky. I think it's mostly because of her murder of Eleanor (which I think takes place in "Lincoln Highway"), which I find somewhat confusing. Is she defending Justin? Is she worried that Eleanor telling him about her vision of Justin as Satan will
