That's certainly one of the issues with Carnivale, and it's one reason that having discussions about the show's mythology is so difficult. There's not a coherent whole there, because the story just cuts off halfway through, and the only thing we have is Knauf and the writer's basic outline of what would have happened…

The music thing is really irritating. I think that Scrubs had some of the best music supervisors in the business, and I maintain that the show used "How to Save a Life" (in season 5's "My Lunch") way better than Grey's Anatomy did.
