It was pretty good in places, and had some of his best writing in probably a decade, but there a couple of chapters toward the end (no spoilers, but they were the ones that reminded me of "Time Chasers") that were riotously funny, and not on purpose.

Keeping it SPOILER FREE here, but yes, something is going on with Eddington. It's remarkable how subtle it's set up, yet so obvious in hindsight, that I wonder if they planned it all along.
