I mentioned your first issue downthread, and according to everyone who replied she wasn't embarrassed by him but rather afraid that her friends thought she was sleeping with him. Personally, I think that's a real stretch, but I'm definitely in the minority on this one, at least as far as the AV Club goes.

What do you think about the other replies in this thread, that she wasn't embarrassed but rather afraid that her friends would think she was sleeping with him? It feels like a stretch to me (and non-Who in a way I can't articulate) but the consensus seems to be quite strong.

Favorite moment: after Bill points out that the father isn't made of wood, the Doctor quickly turns back to confirm…

I half-expected it to be revealed tonight. I knew they probably wouldn't so early, but it began to feel like a reveal scene the longer it went on.

I'm a little surprised at the praise, too. I didn't think it was a bad episode, exactly, just clumsy and dull. The sort of episode you'll see on BBC America one afternoon three years from now and realize you haven't thought of it once since it aired.

Honestly, I struggled to identify with her motivations early in the episode. I get what they were going for, and I see where Alasdair is coming from in his review, but her being embarrassed of The Doctor was written like she was a 14-year-old. (Especially since her friends think he's a legend.) He just helped you move!

The Sarah Jane Adventures: The College Years

Bojack Horseman-style comedy about George RR Martin not writing the next book.

I bet Robin Lord Taylor is freaking the fuck out right about now…

Real talk: if Chris Evans ever rebuffed me, no matter how gently, I would instantly burst into tears.

Suicide.

Weirdly enough (and this isn't even a joke), the answer is often "the small village of Igaliku, in Greenland." He lives there with his family part of the year; his wife is a former Miss Greenland and his father-in-law is a member of Greenland's Parliament.

This Newswire is the board game equivalent of those "Bam! Pow! Zap! Comic Books Aren't Just For Kids Anymore!" articles.

If you're looking for a good subject for a thinkpiece, here you go: comparing and contrasting #firecolbert with #cancelcolbert. What a fucking microcosm of the mid-2010s political spectrum ouroboros.

I was just talking to a friend yesterday about how suddenly "keeping our music locally as mp3s" makes us old-fashioned.

Ah, let the tiresome "Thanks for the spoiler, asshole" / "The book's been out for 80 years" wars begin…

I mentioned this recently, but I really wish I were into opera. My small town's lousy multiplex never gets classic reissues or arthouse films, but there's a four-hour simulcast of an opera every other weekend. It would be awesome to have something like that to go to.

For me, it's just "watching music in the dark" that puts me to sleep every time. I can watch a nine-hour Béla Tarr movie and be riveted the whole time. But I've slept through more musicals than I can count…
