Still working through 'Defence of the Realm: The Authorised History of MI5". I read 58 books last year, but i've been working on this one for nearly a month. It is interesting, but extremely dense, and I keep stopping to cross reference with stuff on the internet.

Necropolis by Catharine Arnold gives an interesting insight into the city based on how it has dealt with its dead over the ages and has some interesting titbits, such as the reason why there is a sudden bend in the underground near Knightsbridge. An enjoyable series of novels littered with historical facts about

Amazon UK
Ninja Tunes is the current Label of the Month at Amazon UK - which means you can download a free sampler album

Out of Copyright
A fair few of Wodehouse's books are now out of copyright and so can be downloaded legally.

I think they look a bit like a young Frances McDormand stood next to a mirror, but that is probably just me.

I completely agree with qwerty that 'Hunter' was truly terrible and proved that it isn't easy to write Gonzo-style (ironic then that the subject was the originator of Gonzo).

I also enjoyed Winstone's performance in the comedic Gangster film, 'Love, Honour and Obey'.

Movie-making docs
'American Movie' is a great tragi-comic documentary about the indie film making process. I think the DVD includes one of the films that is shown being made as an extra (an interesting twist on the usual doc-as-extra format).

Perhaps a better BBC example would be Game On. The replacement for Matthew was nothing like the tall 'surfer' of the first series - they even made a joke of it after the credits of the first episode of the second series.

That'll teach me to reply without reading the second page

Yeah, and the 'briefcase of light' was also used in Repo Man where it became a car boot (or trunk to those west of the Atlantic)

Peep Show!
Usually comedy programmes are stale and formulaic after 2-3 series, but Peep Show has managed to be consistently funny and cringy for over 4 now. Mitchell and Webb are perfect in this, but it is testament to the writers that it works so well (M+W's own stuff for the BBC has been awful).

The only thing in which Jude Law was even half-decent was the episode of the hilarious Operation Good Guys he guested in with Jonny Lee Miller.

Hyenaman, you also forgot Gladiator (Oliver Reed) and Game of Death (Bruce Lee). Two films that show polar opposite methods of dealing with Dead Star Splicing! [Game of Death was great though!]

Just out of interest - do you read the book first, see the film first, or see the film whilst reading the book?

Shredder, you do know that the world isn't entirely contained within U.S. borders, don't you?

That 6th finger would certainly make for unusual hand-job technique!

I agree, that has pretty much freaked me out…

Layer Cake wasn't too bad (I mean how could it be, its got a sinister Gambon) and may be evidence that Matthew Vaughn carried Ritchie and it wasn't solely the Madonna influence.
