"What the fuck is the point of this interview except publicity for Oprah?"
"What the fuck is the point of this interview except publicity for Oprah?"
@LurkyMcLurkerson:disqus, Welp that's as good as an excuse for not apologising for your poorly reasoned, strawman filled attempts at debate as any I suppose.
Nuance should not be your enemy.
" I like to think you'd be as nauseated as I am right now, if this
discussion was about how straight people being afraid of gay people and
shunning them and castigating them isn't really homophobia, and
it's totally understandable and okay, because gay people are SCARY, and
why are gay people so offended by people…
Even? Still? Your words, they…. they make no sense.
Ah too late, I fucked your mum last night.
@avclub-792e0da253569bba07b9ea47da49b795:disqus Playing on a miniscule violin would actually be more difficult than doing it on a normal sized one, so you're actually paying more care and attention that way. Thanks very much.
@LurkyMcLurkerson:disqus, can you actually read what I write please and respond to it? I said fear of rejection - that's not a fear of womamkind. I get what your saying about the true sexist, misogynist assholes, they exist in all types of subcultures from sports to bookclubs or whatever. But there is, particularly…
@LurkyMcLurkerson:disqus, Ah, now come on and cut GLM a break here. He's clearly talking about fear of rejection and what sounds like a deep lack of intimacy not some fear of women's sexuality that is the classic kind of misogynistic attitude.
@LurkyMcLurkerson:disqus, ok look I don't think I've ever told you what you're thinking, so try to refrain from doing that about me. It's a stupid, pointless tactic.
So anyway, if I treat anyone with suspicion it's certainly not because they are female. Besides, I'm not the type of person who "tests" a person's geek…
@avclub-3be42d8a3412057f79af152555e39bd4:disqus, Yeh I think we are all talking in terms of anecodes, personal experience etc. It's really cool you took the initiative and asked guys out, it should happen a lot more.
@avclub-3be42d8a3412057f79af152555e39bd4:disqus, well I'm not mad. Despite being called a woman hating, paranoid loser.
And again I don't think all female geeks are fake, or even the majority.
I'm suprised people on this site can be so blinkered as to dismiss legitimate issues when it doesn't skew with particular…
@avclub-5b7e0a1ad5d9ac9ef3063b05f55b6d31:disqus,
apologies if this is in the wrong thread. If you look at the context in
which I made that point it was about celebs and marketers manipulating
nerdy guys and why that would make them defensive. It was not talking
about your average woman.
@avclub-3be42d8a3412057f79af152555e39bd4:disqus - why didn't you ask any of the nerdy awkwards guys out? Why was it the guy who needed to approach the girls?
@avclub-5b7e0a1ad5d9ac9ef3063b05f55b6d31:disqus, apologies if this is in the wrong thread. If you look at the context in which I made that point it was about celebs and marketers manipulating nerdy guys and why that would make them defensive. It was not talking about your average woman.
"Your paranoid fervor for policing the boundaries of nerd subculture and burning the heathens ain't my problem, either."
" I don't know why I bothered responding to you but here goes: You are
assuming, because a person is female, that she is faking her interest in
something simply to get male attention. Guess what: I like Battlestar
Galactica and Tolkien and I even like Felicia Day. I'm not pretending
to like that stuff to give some…
"The
issue is not how non-nerdy women treat male nerds, douchebag, nor is it
how non-nerdy men treat female nerds."
@avclub-3be42d8a3412057f79af152555e39bd4:disqus, You've just made your point about women specific but are happily generalising about men. I'm asking for parity. Or do you not think there's groups of women disdainful of nedry men? Do you think women never act maliciously and only attack jerks? That's getting might…
@avclub-0f0d67e214f9fef69b278e3d08114da9:disqus
The point is that the ostracisation happened because of the interests in nerdy stuff, so those who hid their interests at that age are mistrusted as they weren't honest and perhaps even joined in the taunting.
@avclub-2784365897ee3eaead94ec72d1943cb7:disqus, Agreed, I'm from the UK so a different experience to many here.
