I love how prostitution is apparently more rampant in a rural Yorkshire than in all of Dickensian London, such that Downton actually has need of a shelter filled to capacity with reforming prostitutes.  Where exactly were these ladies proffering their services?  The local farmers' market?

The art direction on this movie fucking rocks.  Never, not even in the most ambitious Dickens adaptations, has urban squalor been so lovingly, meticulously rendered.  Theatrical heightened realism, yet totally believable as a time and place.

The only other movie Frank Oz has directed besides DK and Little Shop that I have any appreciation for is HouseSitter, which I think is a well-paced screwball comedy that uses Steve Martin and Goldie Hawn absolutely perfectly and hits all the right notes.
