When SNL makes a better healthcare.gov satire in the same week, your own show has done better super celebrity satires within the same few years, and your best joke is a witty callback to funnier times, I don't care what kind of fancy knot you tie the pieces together with, it's not going to be very funny.

I'd normally be inclined to agree with you, but her character grew on me. It seemed like she was doing Spicoli as a 9-year-old girl which, by the end of the sketch, felt just right.
The out-of-left field introduction of a stop-motion mouse at the end had me in stitches. Perfect punchline to end the trailer.
I know it's not kosher to tolerate Miley these days, but I find her casual ability to poke fun at herself to be pretty charming. There are probably ten other celebrities I find exceptionally more cringeworthy than Cyrus (including her father), and all of her stuff on SNL has been pretty solid.

I was on the fence about seeing her live before last night (I love her to death but I'm, you know, broke). After seeing all of that energy, I went straight to the computer and bought a ticket.
In tune or out of tune, that woman is so damn fun to watch.
