Gale Boetticher (sp?) gave Walt that book, because there was a scene where Walt asked Gale to recite the Walt Whitman poem that made him jones for Chemistry. In season 4, Hank KNEW that there was someone else (a W.W.) who was working with Gale. It is pretty clear that he now suspects Walter.
