Just to clarify, and I can only speak for myself. I never said her character was unrealistic (though others have, I see). I know plenty of real people, men and women, who are way more grating and shrill than Kay was. My point was, fine, her character arc as nicely explained by Gleeth et al is perfectly valid, but…

I always figured the blonde hair was more to emphasize her outsider status. She looks nothing like all the brunette, olive-skinned people in Michael's family.

Don't get me wrong, these are outstanding, amazing films, but as things progress, Kay becomes more and more shrill and grating, and honestly I find it hard to see why Michael wants to be with her so badly.
