To give a somewhat serious answer: how (if it all) do you want to remember your ex and the time you were married?  The watch will already make you think of him and the engraving will influence *how* you think of him.  So something empowering and more about you (like what

Yeah, I didn't get the mythology vibe either (but @avclub-c701a997d9bef627835b036efb4eca63:disqus and @avclub-011d0b4fe6835bb3d37ef4e0ea713de6:disqus may well be right).  More that he was trying to sound all mystical and profound instead of simply saying "wow, those people were really shitty to you."

"We went to divorce court and all I got was this stupid watch"

I read plenty of books once.  Doesn't mean they aren't good or enjoyable.

That is *such* a good movie.

Which was a plot point in The Club Dumas, but not carried over into the film version (The Ninth Gate).

Make a stop in Slovenia, too.

An interest in sports makes it really easy to meet people.  Many of them are jackasses, but you can weed those out.

Has she even had sex with a woman yet?  She came out while she was married, but hasn't dated since and is still seeking out men.  Shouldn't she, you know, try it with a woman first?

Meanwhile, in an alternate universe where Dan has a Republican blogger answer a letter…

Yeah, the implied threat of "can't live without you" made my skin crawl in the second letter.  I"ve gotten "I don't know what I would do if you leave me" before and, while I don't think that person meant it as a threat, it's still a lot to dump on someone, like saying their happiness and well-being is entirely

At the very least, she needs a trusted friend to spend some time with the guy to scope him out.  But really, the letter writer sounds too fucked up for any clear-thinking person to get involved with at all, let alone in a scenario that could turn ugly very very easily.

"…performed some work on the core of your psyche, where eros lives."

I agree that Nerri wasn't acted in a very interesting way, but I do like his appearance as a sort of "you can be more" for Chiana.  The two of them were cruising around the galaxy going to raves, attending The Cure concerts, and hooking up with any sentient hottie they could find.  And now he is a serious, respected

"Valen, why are there 3 castes?"
— "Tradition"
"Valen, why does the Grey Council float among the stars?"
—"Tradition"
"Valen, will the suffering of the younger races ever end?"
—"The Aristocrats!"

I made a comment on another AV Club article (no memory of where) about my aversion to the antihero show trend (Breaking Bad, The Shield, etc.).  People assured me that BB never shies away from how much of an asshole Walter White is and doesn't really try to make you cheer for him.  I haven't started watching it yet,

JMS also built up Talia Winters as an important player and then basically said "haha, she's gone."  I appreciate that he was able to play around with structure like that and leave some guns unfired.

Hah, that's an awesome story, and makes me feel a little better about admitting last week that I'm a Franklin fan.

I remember JMS being pleased with the way the first kiss we saw was actually years into their relationship, so it was mentioned.
